You can send the $300 deposit through the deposit link on my website or Venmo (@southernsilks — no fee). PayPal also works but adds a $12 fee. I'll confirm the moment I receive it. Families on the deposit list get pictures first and first pick of the litter, followed by the waitlist.

The Havanese breed became officially recognized by AKC in 1996 by bringing the Havanese Club of America into the fold and giving them recognition as the official Havanese club and authority of AKC. The Havanese Club of America started in 1979 and was the true pioneer in getting the Havanese breed its separate recognition from the Bichon, with the trailblazing efforts of Dorothy Goodale. It is from these efforts that the Havanese breeding standards were established and have been maintained.

At the time of recognition in 1979 there were a total of 1,307 Havanese registered with AKC. In 2011, when some of the source material for this post was written, there were 4,466 dogs registered with AKC worldwide. The breed had climbed to 32nd place out of 178 breeds recognized by AKC. The breed was almost extinct due to turmoil in Cuba, its native land, in the 1960s but was rescued by diligent breeders and advocates like the Havanese Club of America.
