While my experience with Jeanne was 8 years ago - I still look back fondly at that time when she helped bring Gia into my life. Gia is 8 now, and is just as loving, playful and smart as ever. She is loyal beyond belief, a beautiful ldog, and just the best little companion - she continues to accompany me on trips (including airplanes) and brings delight wherever we go. Thanks for being a responsible breeder!

Hi Jeanne- Quick update for Mr. Personality (Tucker)! (See attached pics)

He is about the smartest puppy I've ever seen...his parents must be very
smart! He picked right up on the potty training....I take him out every two
hours and he does his business on the grass without hesitation like he's
been doing it forever. The easiest puppy I have ever housetrained! He
loves coming to work with me each day and spends the day right beside me in
his playpen. He doesn't whine or bark, just plays happily with his toys and
naps. He and our Schnoodle, Andy are becoming fast friends.

He also passed his vet check last Monday with flying colors. Couldn't be
happier with him....he is the best little doggy with the cutest personality!
We just love him!

Dear Jeanne, We LOVE little Sammy. He is closest to my husband but loves us all. When we go on vacation our pups go too (they each have a safe travel seat so they can see out the car windows). He is almost never alone as we have different work hours and my daughter is here too. He and Izibella (our little Yorkie) are great friends and love their daily walks together although each wants to be the leader! She gives in to him with toys, etc. which surprises us as she is willful and a tad bigger (5lbs. And he is 4). He was fixed and had some extra teeth pulled in Sept.(and our vet loves him too!). His first Christmas was amazing. He opened his stocking- chock full of things he loves on the sofa with my husband and didn’t know what to play with first! Our house is a doggie kingdom- toys and beds everywhere- which we love. He is the most loving, smart, sweet, funny little guy ever and puts smiles on all our faces daily. He sleeps with us every night. I could go on and on. He is the best dog anyone could ever have and we THANK YOU FOREVER!!!!!! Hope you keep breeding these little angels. We couldn’t be happier!!! Blessings, Ozma

Hello Jeanne. This is Catherine Bordelon. I bought Luna's only puppy in August, a male that I call Pierre. Just wanted to let you know he is doing wonderful and his coat is growing!! My family and I are enjoying him so much. What a funny, loving disposition he has. He loves everyone that comes over to visit and he is a "hit" wherever we go. Pierre has gone to soccer games, the Lafayette mall in his fashionable houndstooth print purse carrier. He loves going through the drive thrus but he doesn't get to sample. He loves to fetch all hours of the day. And he plays with all his new toys. I am sure Santa will bring him new toys! Jeanne, thank you so much for blessing my family with such a fantastic companion and raising such beautiful Maltese. I hope to buy a female from you in the future. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. May you have a safe and blessed holiday season. All the best to you,

Catherine Bordelon

Hi! We had a great experience with Southern Silks. We worked directly with Jeane, and had good communication with her throughout the process. She shipped Pork Chop on a flight to where we were in Atlanta and everything was a smooth process and she walked us through everything we needed to do regarding his immediate care. Pork Chop arrived in good health and spirits and, 3 years later, he's still the best dog we've ever had. We told Jeane what we were looking for in terms of personality and she seemed to match him to us perfectly. If we were to get another Maltese, we would use Southern Silks again. They breed beautiful, wonderful dogs. -

Where can I begin...except with Jeanne Roane, one of the most loving and caring people I know. Her love and dedication to excellence transfer to her puppies, along with her soft, sweet voice. Remy's introduction to the world was Jeanne saying to her, "Hey Girl" welcome to the world! Our vet, Dr. Reinhart, told us that Remy was the most balanced, perfect puppy he has ever seen...he said she must have had a wonderful Mother...another pup for which Jeanne is responsible!!

Well, when we saw Louie aka Golden Boy, on Jeanne's website, SouthernSilksPuppies.com, we fell in love once again...Louie is an amazing boy...fun loving, laid back and quite the gentleman. He stands back when Remy is with a toy or a chewie and just watches her lovingly. I could spend all day watching them...they are adorable, sweet, loving and so much fun. Everyone loves them. I could go on forever talking about Remy and Louie, two of the most precious Havanese pups...but, in reality, all of Jeanne's pups are perfect! You will love your new puppy from Jeanne...her integrity shows in her pups and her continuous contact with her clients goes beyond any of my expectations. Thank you, Jeanne, for my Remy and Louie...they make life beautiful!

My Lovable Trooper
I want to Thank You Miss Jeanne for assisting me in choosing my lovable “Trooper”. There is no other more appropriate name for him. He has been an absolute Trooper in his move with me to Texas just after a couple of weeks of bringing him home. As long as he is with me he is content. Miss Jeanne taught him all the proper manners as well. He is spotty trained, loves to be brushed every night and gives unconditional love. Everyone that meets him falls in love with him.
God Bless,

My Angel
I was referred to Southern Silks in 2004 when I was looking for a Maltese puppy. Jeanne was such a wonderful resource and it became so obvious through many conversations how much she loves these dogs. I think it would be near impossible to find someone who is as dedicated as she to creating such loving pets. My dog is beautiful, healthy, and very loving. I love Trixie more every day. When I am ready for another Maltese, it will be from Jeanne. Thank you for breeding these beautiful and healthy dogs.

I want to greet you for the new year and tell you that our little Chucho is everything you want your dogs to be!!!
He just loves everyone – especially the children.
I have had dogs throughout my life, but have never experienced the love and devotion that this little friend gives me. He is so bright and anxious to please. He never complains during travel. We simply couldn’t ask for a more wonderful little dog.
I suppose other owners tell you all these things. But I just wanted to add my voice in praise.
Sincerely,
Angela

Your Puppy’s First Night

Chances are good that the first night your puppy is in his new home, both of you will get little sleep. You can hardly blame your puppy for having difficulty sleeping. Dogs are creatures of habit and routine. Your puppy will miss his mother and litter-mates and will feel uncomfortable in his new surroundings until he forms a bond with you. Like a young child, your puppy has little control over his emotions and even though he may cry, scolding him will do nothing but cause him to fear you. If your puppy cries for you to come to him for the first few nights, your constant appearance, whether to comfort or scold, will only serve to reinforce the fact that he can make you appear with his cries.

Southern Silks Maltese and Havanese

It is important that your pup has a safe place to sleep, free from drafts and harm. Many owners have their puppy asleep in an exercise pen, and although this can be a good choice, many puppies settle down quicker and sleep more soundly when they are snug and warm in a crate. Once your pup is older, out of the chewing stage, and completely housebroken, chances are that he will rarely use a crate except to travel.

If you can’t bear to hear your puppy cry throughout the night, you might want to take the softhearted approach and place his crate next to your bed. There, he will know that you are near, and you can place your fingers into the crate and soothe him if he whines during the night. Most puppies will quickly go to sleep; however, some determined pups might refuse to settle down. If you become very irritated with your pup, place the crate in a separate room in your home and leave the puppy there for the night with a small amount of food and a little water. Never hit your puppy for crying.

Here are a few puppy care tips that may help your puppy feel more comfortable during his first night. When you arrange to pick up your puppy, ask the breeder for a soft toy or cloth that was with the puppy’s mother and litter-mates, and place it in his sleeping quarters. The familiar smell can be comforting to the pup. You can also leave a dim night-light on so the pup can see his bowl if he becomes hungry or thirsty. (Be sure not to leave too much food or water overnight, or the pup will probably awake because he has to potty.)

If your pup is having trouble sleeping soundly in his crate, place a sheet over the front door of the crate. Leave the side air holes uncovered. The pup will soon learn that when the door is covered, it is time to sleep for the night. If your puppy sleeps in the same area as another dog, he will settle down much quicker, taking his cue from his new friend.

Some people choose to allow their pups to sleep in bed with them. Remember, this will quickly become a habit that will be difficult to break later. If you allow you puppy to sleep in bed with you, make sure that this is something you want to continue when the pup is fully grown. It is easier to train a young pup, than to retrain a grown adult dog.

Protecting Your Puppy
Puppies will get into as much mischief as you allow. They are inherently curious and extremely determined once they have put their mind to something. Your puppy will need a safe place of his own to explore and play during the day when he is not with you. This area should be in a location that is near you so the puppy can observe the household activities going on around him. An easy-to-clean flooring such as vinyl or ceramic tile is a must until he is fully housebroken.

Just as a human child will pick up objects and put them in his mouth, so will a puppy. Be sure that any item that is small enough to choke on, or can be chewed into smaller pieces and swallowed, is out of the puppy’s reach. Electrical wires, curtain cords and poisonous houseplants are tempting to little puppies as well. Watch your pup carefully – he’s depending on you!

When your pup is outside, he will need a securely fenced yard, shade, and ample water. Never leave your pup alone outside for long periods of time. He may become too hot or cold, or he may find a way to escape out of the yard. He will also learn bad habits such as barking and digging, and will become lonely and more difficult to train. Your puppy wants to be a member of your family, and the more time you spend with him, the quicker he will become trained. Responsible puppy care begins with you!
